Sponsor a Child
When you sponsor a child you help to provide food, clean water, shelter, clothing, health care and an education in a supportive Christian environment. This is life changing for children in poor communities whose families have often been devastated by poverty and ill health.
Khayelihle Children's Village, Zimbabwe
The AIDS pandemic and economic crisis in Zimbabwe has left many children abandoned, neglected and orphaned, without extended family to care for them. Khayelihle Children's Village (KCV) was established in 1995 in response to this crisis. Khayelihle means "beautiful home". KCV provides care for the children within a family structure. Churches of Christ in Australia, New Zealand and the United States have partnered with Zimbabwe to make this possible.
Further information on KCV can be found on www.kcvkids.org.
Ankoor Home, India
In the communities of rural northern India many people live below the poverty line. Literacy among the population is often less than 2%. Kiron and Nalini Gaikwad have established a children's hostel at Yavatmal to provide tribal children in the area with the opportunity to receive an education. High school and college students are provided with access to a bicycle so they can continue to learn at higher education institutions. The children are also provided with tutoring in areas which will provide them with opportunites for an income in the future such as tailoring, cooking, computer classes and agricultural and animal husbandry.
Shrigonda Girls' Home & Baramati Boys' Home, India
Shrigonda and Baramati Children's Homes were established in response to famine and cholera and influenza epidemics that left countless children orphaned and destitute. HIV/AIDS is an increasing challenge in India. From these homes have come a number of strong Christian leaders and workers.
Sudan
Decades of civil war in Sudan has had a devastating impact on millions of innocent survivors. The most vulnerable of these are children. In Marialbai, a village near the South Darfur border, a mission has recently been established to care for 240 children who have lost both parents. A feeding centre provides a basic daily meal. The plan is to open a school in 2011. Income from child sponsorship will be used to provide food, education, clothing, health care and accommodation where needed.
Ngonidzaishe's story
Ngonidzaishe was found abandoned in Zvishavane. A report was made to the police. Investigations into the whereabouts of the child's mother proved futile. Ngonidzaihe was taken to Zvishavane District Hospital for medical care and safekeeping. Realizing that Ngonidzaishe needed a family for her developmental needs, she was then placed at Khayelihle Children's Village by the Social Welfare Department. Ngonidzaishe has adapted well the the KCV family. She is cheerful and healthy. Ngonidzaishe lives in Australia House II.
