COCOA Great Gifts Making a World of Difference

Thandolwenkosi & COCOA envelope.jpgThandolwenkosi is the child pictured on the front of this year’s COCOA (Churches of Christ Overseas Aid) Offering envelope. She is one very happy pre-schooler at Khayelihle Children’s Village (KCV) in Zimbabwe. Her life has been transformed by the nurture she receives at KCV. This includes food, the love of adults and an education. Such a transformation is largely due to the compassionate support of the people of Churches of Christ in Australia.

The COCOA Offering envelopes have now been mailed out to each church and two advertisements are attached below.

Both a PowerPoint and a windows media video file are available to advertise a selection of COCOA Great Gifts. (You might like to have some music playing softly in the background with both these options.) You can access the mwv from the link below.

Klong Toey Still Dry!

Ash Barker sharing supplies.jpgWe have just had word through from Ash Barker that the community where they live in Bangkok is not actually underwater, but dry. The photo in the story ‘And Still the Water Rises in Bangkok’ is of Ash assisting in another neighbourhood where a friend, originally from Klong Toey and a member of Ta Rua Church, now lives. Ash reports, “We went out Sunday with some of our neighbours to help and give medicines, food and water in that North Bangkok neighbourhood, wading in with boats to those hard to get at places.

“The floods however, have not passed us by yet because water is basically being held at bay in those areas and being released slowly. So I hope the eNews story is not prophetic!

“We appreciate prayers as over 500 people have died and millions have been affected. Thailand will be slow to recover. Even our football ground where we play at Harrow School is still underwater, with only the tops of the goal posts showing. It has been like that for over a month. There is simply nowhere for the water to go there.

“Thanks again for all your support. Please assure our tribe we are all ok!”

Celebration of Global Mission

Celebration of Global Mission with Hery Susanto.jpgThank you to all who joined us at Northside Community Church in Sydney on Saturday for the annual Celebration of Global Mission. It was a special day of fellowship and encouragement in all that God is doing as we partner together.

It was a delight to have Hery Susanto, Academic Dean of the Churches of Christ Theological College in Central Java, join as our special guest and share news of the churches and training colleges in Indonesia. We were also encouraged by the stories and updates especially from Vietnam and South Sudan.

Another highlight was launching the new partnership with Bangladesh. You can read more on this in the cover article of the November In Partnership (see article below).

Special thanks to Northside Church for their warm welcome, wonderful volunteers and excellent facilities and organization making this a memorable day of celebration.
