Pakistan Flood Relief

REsidents carry belongings through flood.jpgThe scale and impact of floods on the people of Pakistan is overwhelming. The total number of people affected is greater than 20 million (almost the population of Australia). The devastation and dislocation of people is unimaginable. 200,000 more are being evacuated from villages at the moment. Those assisting on the ground predict that there will be continuing dislocation over the next six to eight weeks requiring significant levels of emergency assistance, long before the process of rebuilding begins.

The Action by Churches Together Alliance response in Pakistan is reaching over 269,000 people. Children remain at high risk of disease. Sources quoted in Pakistan media say six million children have been affected by the floods with 2.7 million needing urgent, life-saving assistance. In addition, 3.5 million are at high risk of illness like diarrhoea and dysentery. Concerns about the spread of cholera have grown, particularly in areas where water is flowing only slowly.

Annual General Meeting

There’s nothing quite like being engaged personally in mission to give you a story worth sharing! At the upcoming AGM you will have the opportunity to hear churches and individuals share regarding:
  • Short Term Mission experiences and opportunities
  • Briefing on new programs in Sudan
  • Ways churches can engage with Vietnam
  • Two churches tell their story of mission involvement

The Global Mission Partners Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 30 October at the Churches of Christ Theological College (CCTC), Mulgrave in Melbourne. The theme will be ‘Being in Global Mission’. The program will commence around 10:30am and feature stories from churches that are directly connecting with settings of global mission. Some of the new partnerships of GMP in Indonesia, Sudan and Vietnam have emerged as people and churches become directly involved in mission.

News

Joseph & Chief at Marialbai.jpgGMP produces a weekly edition of GMP eNews choosing three or four partners in various mission settings to give a snapshot of the latest news.

The first week of the month a six page newsletter is also produced. In Partnership tells the story of many of our Australian partner churches engaged in mission, as well as reporting on overseas news.

You can receive both GMP eNews and In Partnership by clicking 'Subscribe' on the left side-bar.

The latest newsletters for each partner country can also be found on the relevant country page. You might like to check out the most recent news from Sudan and Vietnam.
