ACFID Response to the Budget Announcement

AID: A PROMISE BROKEN
 
This budget represents a core promise broken by the Gillard Government. It will affect the lives of millions of men, women and children who depend on Australian aid.
 
The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), the peak body for aid charities, is extremely disappointed that the Government has abandoned its commitment to lift foreign aid to 50 cents in every $100 of Australia’s national income by 2015.
 
“Pushing this commitment back to 2016-17 is not good enough,” said Marc Purcell, ACFID Executive Director.

Opportunities for Volunteering

If you are looking for a great way to use your skills as a Christian volunteer overseas here are a couple of options you might like to consider:

1. Lecturing at the International Christian College of Manila, Philippines –

two week courses teaching upper-level undergraduate students between June 2012 and March 2013 in:

  • English & Literature
  • Art Appreciation
  • Bible Classes
  • Specialist Classes in ministry, outreach and worship
plus a range of other education classes. Further information is available from GMP.
 

Australian Volunteers International.jpg2. Administration Support, Vanuatu –

opportunity for a one year partnership with the Churches of Christ Conference.
 
The successful candidate will have:
  • Previous experience advising on project design and implementation
  • High level organisational skills including experience in implementing new administrative, financial and information management systems
  • Experience writing and submitting proposals
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others
An undersatnding and awareness of Churches of Christ would be helpful. Further information can be found on the AVI website.
