We immediately booked in when we heard that Global Mission Partners (GMP) was planning a trip to Zimbabwe for June 2015. We didn’t regret that decision! Seeing the work at Khayelihle Children’s Village (KCV), meeting the children there and learning about the work of Churches of Christ in Zimbabwe was a moving experience.
Spending time in KCV, we watched the children going about their lives, happy and well fed (both physically and spiritually) and observed the commitment of the staff. This visit confirmed our belief that KCV was worth supporting. The results were plain. Every child was dressed in full school uniform each school day, and just as well dressed when they attended Sunday School and church on Sundays, and every child went about with a smile. Sharing the evening devotions with the children in their houses was a further blessing for all team members.
The value of the work of the Showers of Blessing Trust in providing clean water to isolated villages was attested to by the many villagers whose lives have been changed by this program. Spending time with BJ Mpofu and his wife, Chipo, was a further encouragement. Both are active in the work of Churches of Christ, yet gave their time and use of their home to us most generously.
We were grateful for John Gilmore's guidance as he led us through the wonderful experiences of the itinerary. We have returned with our hearts full of joy, committed to sharing all we have learned and the many experiences with which God has blessed us.
