Renewed Life at Ingome, Zimbabwe
Posted on Wed, 14/12/2011
Ingome Church was the first rural mission post founded by the first missionaries to Zimbabwe. Established in 1912, the congregation struggled to grow. Now, almost a century later, both the school and the church have come alive. Ingome Church has embarked on the ambitious project of building a new chapel which will seat over three hundred people. The church members have all contributed to digging the foundations and putting funds together to buy the concrete bricks.
The school on the other side has built a new block with a computer classroom included. They hope to have electricity connected to the classrooms so that computer classes can be taught. The challenge is the high cost of connecting electricity to the site.
BJ Mpofu, Director of the Associated Churches of Christ in Zimbabwe, reports, “Everything around this community seems to show a new breath of life and it’s exciting times for them. When I investigated why there is this progress, I discovered that this is one church that has brought women into leadership with young dynamic school teachers who are committed to the gospel and to moving the church forward. Both the church and the school have been transformed into community centres and the people feel a personal connection and ownership.
“A delegation from both the school and the church paid me a visit and shared their dream of celebrating the centenary in 2012. They are looking forward to making their centenary celebration exciting and historical.”
