Three Additions and a Completed House at KCV

The number of children residing at Khayelihle Children’s Village (KCV) has recently increased to 103. The three new siblings who have joined the KCV family are Hlanganani (9), Hloniphani (6) and Thandiwe Sibanda (5). Jabulani Xaba, KCV Director, reports, “The children have settled in well and are happy to be here. Hlanganani (the eldest) was very excited the first day he slept at KCV because he slept on his own bed, without having to share it, and had been given new clothes.”
The Founders’ House has been furnished and already has house parents. Originally the intention was to house the babies in this house. However, it proved difficult to separate the babies from their original family units so the house is now occupied by the three new Sibanda children. Jabulani writes “We extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed towards the building and completion of the house. It is the sixth house and a sign that KCV is growing.”
One of the older KCV youth, Vusumuzi Mbewe, has moved out of Zimbabwe House. He is now employed on the KCV farm and lives in the worker’s quarters there. Vusumuzi has studied agriculture and has a passion for tending the livestock and working on the land. He is a responsible young man, grateful for all the opportunities that have been afforded to him at KCV. He is also enjoying being independent now and able to support himself from his wages.
A special celebration was held at KCV on 12th November for their 18th Annual General Meeting. The KCV young people performed some traditional dances and the pre-school children enjoyed entertaining the guests with their nursery rhymes. About 300 people braved the heat to celebrate together and map the way forward for KCV.
