Team Travels

Several short term mission teams have just returned and the following teams are setting out:
  • Two people from the Callala Bay Community Church in NSW will leave for Fiji tomorrow 1 September. They will be a support for the Lautoka and Vitogo churches on the western side of the main island of Vita Levu for the next two weeks.
  • On Tuesday 7 September six young men from Door of Hope Christian Church in Tasmania are heading off to Zimbabwe. Under the leadership of Rod Foster, the team will be working with local people in schools, with children and staff at Khayelihle Children’s Village, visiting and encouraging local churches and their pastors, and providing practical assistance.
  • Blake Moore is leading an OnEARTH team from York St, Ballarat Church of Christ to spend time with indigenous communities in Broome, Cape Leveque and Hall’s Creek, WA from 18 Sept – 2 Oct. This follows on from their earlier mini-mission weekend experience at Dareton.
  • Allan and Janelle Miller will be in Vanuatu for three weeks from Friday 10 September. They will assist at Londua and Ranwadi high schools with electrical work and have time with Stephanie, their daughter. Steph has applied and been accepted for a further year as a volunteer assistant teacher at Ranwadi in 2011.

From Warm to Warmer

Jan & Twmba Nth team.jpgFrom Queensland Jan Christensen writes, “How good is a job that takes you north in winter? I am just back from a trip in which I had the privilege of visiting some of Queensland’s northern churches from Gladstone to Cairns. It was good to listen as mission committees shared about their commitment to mission, and their involvement in bringing the gospel to people from the local area through to places like China, the Philippines, etc. It was also a great privilege to have the chance to speak about Global Mission Partners in a number of churches. Last week I also stepped over the border at Tweed Heads to be part of their Mission Month.

Partnership with churches local and overseas, and partnering with God and his people, is such an inspiring thing. The Toowoomba North Church of Christ team led by Fay Christensen, ex-missionary to PNG, plans to trek to Gandep Bible College in Papua New Guinea in September. They are into some serious training – eating “PNG-ish” cuisine (but no saksak) and learning a PNG song, complete with dance steps! They are feeling the excitement as the time draws near for them to go. I know they will be a real encouragement to the staff and students of the College. How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news... even if they are covered in mud!’

A Story Worth Sharing
llen Cox at AGM (cropped).jpgThere’s nothing quite like being engaged personally in mission to give you a story worth sharing. At the upcoming Annual General Meeting on Saturday October 30 at the Churches of Christ Theological College, Mulgrave, you will have the opportunity to hear churches and individuals share regarding:
  • Short Term Mission experiences and opportunities
  • Briefing on new programs in Sudan
  • Ways churches can engage with Vietnam
  • Two churches tell their story of mission involvement
Dr Andrew Menzies will be exploring connections with mission both in local church life and globally. The day commences at 10:30am. We hope to see you there! Your RSVP to info@inpartnership.org.au by Friday October 22 will assist with catering.
