Good News from Batur

Pastor Hery Susanto reports from the Church of Christ Theological Seminary (STJKI) in Central Java, Indonesia, “Six months ago, three students from the Bible College opened a ministry in the unreached area of Batur. Week after week these three students would travel by public transport then walk the last 30 minutes over rocks and stones in order to reach the village. There they would tutor the children while being alert for opportunities to talk with the parents. As a result of this outreach, seven people were recently baptized. One of the men, an important figure in the village, was formerly a strong opponent of Christianity. Now the believers gather in his home. Our prayer is that this result will be repeated over and over in other areas.”
“Fifteen students have graduated this year from the college. Most of them continue to be committed to planting new churches. Their outreach is often through serving the sick and needy. They visit, pray, and connect with others who can give needed therapy, treatment and medicines. Due to limited resources and money, these people are often treated by their families as a burden. God’s love is shown through deeds of compassion and care so that both physical and spiritual needs are being met and the Gospel is becoming Good News for these people.”
