In Grateful Recognition for a Ministry through Stamps
Posted on Tue, 10/08/2010
For many years David Lewis served on the SA Overseas Missions Committee for OMB, now Global Mission Partners, and held the role of treasurer for almost 40 years. David also served on the Board of OMB.
David had always had a stamp collection, and in 1966, at his wife Eileen’s suggestion, he began a ministry of selling used stamps with the proceeds being for overseas missions. These funds supported many students in India, Vanuatu, PNG and Fiji enabling them to undertake Bible Correspondence courses. David also visited many Federal Conferences and World Conventions, extending and explaining the Stamps for Missions projects. Volunteers from all over Australia joined in to soak and sort stamps, a ministry that still continues under the leadership of Ros Beale in Queensland. More than $148,000 has been raised over the 44 years from the humble used stamp ministry.
David had experienced very good health for most of his life, but had his first stroke in January 2008 and had several more in the last two and a half years. David spent almost a year at Warrina Park Nursing Home in SA and passed away peacefully in his sleep there on Monday 9th August 2010 aged 86 years. We are grateful for this wonderful partnership in the Gospel and give praise to God for David’s many years of faithful service.
