Aweil Health Science Institute
Aweil Health Science Institute is training 40 midwifery, 40 nursing and 40 clinical assistant students. They are urgently needed to meet the medical needs of one million mainly rural poor residents of north-western South Sudan.
The Institute is supported by the South Sudanese government and UNFPA, who are providing the basic operational costs. But many students need more help to succeed.
COCOA is involved in the Academic Support Program to help students whose High School experience has been inadequate. Few students have ever had access to libraries, laboratories or the internet. The Academic Support Program includes after school tutoring in specific subjects, IT training, student counselling, study skills, writing labs and group facilitations. These programs give the students skills and knowledge needed to approach their medical studies with more confidence.
